(FiniteTimes.com) - Former presidential candidate John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth have officially separated, according to a source close to Elizabeth Edwards.
“You know how you step in something nasty, and you keep trying to scrape it off your damn shoe, but it won’t ever quite come off?” said the source, a close friend to the former candidate’s wife. “Elizabeth finally tossed the fucker away and went shoe shopping today.”
When the story first broke Wednesday morning, John Edwards denied that he had stopped seeing his wife. By noon, an aide to Edwards was claiming that he (the aide) had actually broken up with Elizabeth. By the time the afternoon commute rolled around, John Edwards was denying that the children he had with Elizabeth were his, that maybe an aide had fathered them, but he still wasn’t breaking up with “my cute lil bubble slut.” By early evening, the Edwards’ children jointly issued a press release saying they didn’t care what their mother did or did not do, they were definitely breaking up with their father. A couple of hours later, Elizabeth had finally, apparently, had enough.
“I can tell you this much: Elizabeth has officially resigned as chair of John’s 2012 Presidential Exploratory Committee,” the source said. “That spells ‘done’ to me.”
