Homer: Exit Stage Left?
(FiniteTimes.com) – Spokesmen for both camps confirmed that Mickey Mouse has been signed on to appear in the next season of The Simpsons. What isn’t clear is what this will mean in terms of Homer Simpson’s place in the ensemble cast.
“You know, Mickey has been unhappy for years,” said Hollywood insider Sy Mellish. “He goes from basically the top star of the Disney franchise to a bit player. It’s gotta hurt.”
In terms of Homer Simpson, rumors have flown the past few years concerning his off-screen antics. He is said to have a heavy Buzz Beer dependency, and last year’s allegations of sexual predations against fellow actor Ned Flanders had the tabloid world aflutter. Rumors of financial problems have also plagued him, with his “Doh!” clothing line performing much more poorly last year than Wall Street analysts had predicted.
An inside source tells The Finite Times that Jessica Simpson (the producers apparently have a dictionary with both “cute” and “irony” in it) had originally been interested in the part, but after her Dukes of Hazzard appearance, she felt that a two-dimensional cartoonish role would be too much of a stretch.
At the moment, the show’s producers are planning on writing Mickey in as a nuclear power plant vs. mouse encounter that went awry, but if Homer actually leaves the show, all bets are off. Stay tuned to The Finite Times for more on this breaking story.
