Democrats Trade Coakley To Marijuana Party
(FiniteTimes.com) – Fallout from the special election to fill Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy’s seat has been swift and resolute, with national Democratic leaders announcing today a multi-player, multi-party trade that would see Martha Coakley traded to the Marijuana Party for several operatives and a city counsel-person to be named later. Most of the Democratic acquisitions would come from the Libertarian Party, also named as a party to these post-election trades.
“We wish Martha the best, but politics is a business first and foremost, and we have to do what is best for the party,” said a source within the Democratic National Committee. “We’re hoping that the Libertarians we get through this trade will help to push us more to the right, which is the clear message we’re getting from last night’s special election. Well, that and you really should campaign for a seat you want to win. That’s a biggie.”
While the Libertarian Party had no comment concerning what they expect to get from the trade, the Marijuana Party seemed pleased to welcome the losing Coakley.
“Did you see the campaign? She’s smoking something, glad to have her,” said Glenda Marshall, a Marijuana Party spokeswoman.
