Death Halts Jackass III Shooting
(FiniteTimes.com) – The tragic death this past weekend of “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin has temporarily halted shooting of the third installment of the iconic Jackass movie franchise.
“Everyone here on the set is just crushed at Steve’s death. This is the first jackass we’ve ever lost,” said Jackass’ Johnny Knoxville and Bam Margera in a prepared statement. “He was the heart and soul of Jackass III, which is still scheduled to hit theaters in November, 2008. Our prayers are with Steve’s family during this difficult time.”
Irwin was killed Monday at Australia’s Great Barrier Reef while filming a Jackass III segment called “Stingray Makeover.” The segment called for Irwin to apply lipstick and rouge to the stingray, then inject collagen into it. While docile, the stingray is fiercely homophobic, and the male stingray abruptly bolted, accidentally impaling Irwin and ruining 30 seconds of superiorly-written post-segment banter. Irwin died on the scene.
Knoxville has confirmed to The Finite Times that stunt daredevil Robbie Knievel will be replacing Steve Irwin in Jackass III, a decision that he admits to having mixed feelings about.
“We jump people in shopping carts, he jumps busses on motorcycles. He’s strictly a professional jackass, while we’re amateurs,” Knoxville said. “While I am a little worried that we’ll lose our amateur jackass status, we all are looking forward to working with Robbie and being inspired to new heights of jackassitude.”
Knoxville would not comment on whether already-filmed Irwin segments such as “Croctology Exam” and “Snakes in a Speedo” would appear in the final movie.
