Carolyn Kennedy Sees New Path to Nomination

(FiniteTimes.com) – Upping the ante in her bid to replace Hillary Clinton as New York’s junior senator, Carolyn Kennedy has announced that she is considering donating one of her own eyes to New York Governor David Paterson. Governor Paterson, at least for the time being, is legally blind.

“Caroline has always had a very ‘ask not what your governor can do for you, ask what you can do for your governor’ thing going on, and NOT bogarting an eye is a total fit for her,” said a long-time aide to Kennedy. “She was planning on giving him an eye even before the Senate seat opened up.”

The press has known for weeks that Kennedy had a secret weapon that she could deploy in the fight to be named senator, but beyond a catchy codename – Operation Cyclops – they had little information on it. Now that the cat is out of the bag, many in the press have split feelings over the plan.

“Well, she’s a Kennedy and she’s giving him an organ? She shoots, she scores,” said one NY Post reporter. “Still, do you really need a job THAT badly? It seems like a steep price, particularly considering that if (former Governor Eliot) Spitzer was still in the office, you could have had the position for a hum-job.”

Aides and friends stress that Ms. Kennedy has not reached a final decision on forking over an eye, but sources have confirmed to The Finite Times that the former first-daughter has been seen in and around Manhattan over the past few days, talking to organ donation officials and shopping for eye patches at Neiman Marcus.

For his part, Governor Paterson has been coy over his possible selection, and many say that he is weighing all angles before making a decision.

“David wants the eye, OK? Huge no-brainer there,” said a close friend to the New York governor. “But there are some big issues here. Is it legal, for one. Rod Blagojevich proved you can’t trade a Senate seat for favors, but can you trade it for an eye? Also, is an eyeball transplant even possible? A lot of the issues surrounding this are pretty blurry at the moment.”

The situation should get a lot clearer this week, when the Senate is expected to take up the confirmation hearing of Senator Hillary Clinton to be the next secretary of state.
