Bush Does #2 For The Troops
(FiniteTimes.com) – President Bush appeared on national television Tuesday night to condemn the Democrats’ war funding bill and explain why he was vetoing it. To many Americans, the explanation came as a surprise.
“Them Democrats put times tables in this bill, and I’m not going to multiply. I just won’t,” the president said. “I’m not gonna add, not gonna subtract, not gonna multiply. I’m a divider. They want me to divide? Bring it on.”
The president added: “This is only my second veto, and this one is for the troops.”
White House spokeswoman Dana Perino sought to clarify the president’s position several hours later with a short statement that seemed to indicate President Bush was open to negotiation.
“Quote, asking the president to multiply is like dating a failure, unquote,” Ms. Perino read from a handwritten statement. “Quote, this commander-in-chief ain’t not going to unfund the troops, but he’s willing to sign, uh, something something, without times tables or spelling tests attached, unquote.”
The president’s actions throw the ball back into Congress’ court, where Democrats have been pursuing a No Child Left Behind strategy of inserting testing traps into legislation in an attempt to get Bush demoted back to the Texas governor’s mansion.
