Extreme Makeover to Tackle Walter Reed
New York, NY (FiniteTimes.com) – The host of ABC’s Emmy-winning hit show Extreme Makeover, Home Edition confirmed Wednesday that the show would soon be enlisting an army of workmen to wage war on a very special target.
“We’re going to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and we’re going to bring hope to those brave, rundown soldiers,” said Ty Pennington at a Wednesday morning press conference.
Walter Reed and the Bush administration have faced growing criticism over the past few days following a two-part article in The Washington Post that slammed the hospital for its decayed state. Building 18 in particular was singled out, and Pennington says that this is where the show will focus most of its attention.
“We’re going to strip out the carpeting, scrape up the mold and vacuum up the mouse droppings,” Pennington said. “We have Arabic landscapers we’re bringing in, and by the time they’re done, it’ll be like the soldiers are still over there, doing their duty. It’ll be very therapeutic, and a very wonderful thing.”
Extreme Makeover also plans on expanding Building 18 to take into account the coming troop surge, although Pennington admitted that by how much remains to be seen.
“It’s the whole math thing, you know? These people are missing parts, so they take up less room. We just have to figure out how much less and then ‘Good Morning!’, we’re good to go.”
Pennington’s show successfully managed to outbid a number of other shows for the chance to “remake” Walter Reed, including While You Were Out and The Regis & Kelly Show. Extreme Makeover, Homeland Edition is scheduled to air in a special live broadcast during the May sweeps period.
