Lower Budget Estimate Wins Congressional Praise
Washington, DC (FiniteTimes.com) – Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill Tuesday were applauding the news that President Bush’s 2.9 trillion dollar budget would actually come in lower than originally predicted.
“There was a problem with the math. We went back over it last night and kaching! $1.36 less than we thought,” said White House Budget Director Rob Portman as he prepared to testify before Congress on the budget request.
If the numbers stand, it means that President Bush’s budget for the year starting October 1 will not be $2,900,000,000,000 as announced, but rather $2,899,999,999,998.64. The new numbers will shave an estimated .7 seconds off Bush’s prediction of a 2012 balanced budget, while still maintaining a strong enough military force to assure that no comfort will be given to the enemy.
While the news sent many in Congress scurrying to break out the domestic champagne, not everyone was celebrating. House Democrats vowed to hold hearings into exactly what portion of the budget the $1.36 came from, while their colleagues in the Senate began drafting several non-binding resolutions condemning the administration’s arithmetic skills.
