Takei to Join Libby Legal Team

Washington, DC (FiniteTimes.com) – Seeking to stem the flood of negative testimony their client is facing in his perjury and obstruction of justice trial, attorneys for former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby have announced that veteran actor George Takei will be joining their defense team. Takei’s primary responsibility will be the closing argument.

“Mr. Libby has long been a quote-unquote Trekkie, so he is obviously thrilled that Mr. Takei will be joining the team,” said defense attorney William Jeffress. “In addition to Mr. Takei’s own experience with being ‘outed,’ Mr. Libby feels that Mr. Takei’s experience as Sulu dealing with an Orion spy disguised as an Andorian in the ‘Journey to Babel’ episode with be an exceptional asset.”

When asked about his addition to the Libby team, the openly-gay Takei seemed pleased.

“Mmm, Scooter. It just sort of rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it? Scooooooooooter… I could say it all day,” Takei said.

Legal experts say the move is not without some risk.

“Let’s say the prosecution brings in Leonard Nimoy,” said UCONN legal professor Sy Melman. “Nimoy’s Spock has previously bested Takei’s Sulu, most notably in the episode ‘The Naked Time’, where Spock puts the Vulcan nerve pinch on an intoxicated swashbuckling Sulu, as I’m sure Scooter Libby well knows. Does he really want to risk his closing argument on this?”

Apparently so. Insiders say Libby is standing firm on his decision, and that George Takei will be in court at his side as early as Monday morning. It is still unclear how the prosecution will respond. Repeated hails to the Special Prosecutor’s office and Leonard Nimoy’s people regarding this  story went unanswered.
